Accessibility statement

A trail everyone can use.

Good trails have clear markers, a steady grade and room for everyone on them. We hold this site, our apps and every site we build for clients to the same standard.

Adjust the trail.

These controls change this page so you can see how it holds up. Your browser and device have the same settings built in, and our sites follow them automatically: text size, increased contrast and reduced motion.

Trail profile

No surprise switchbacks.

An accessible site climbs at a steady grade. Here's what we build in along the way.

  1. 01 · Clear markers

Real headings in a logical order, labels on every form field, descriptive link text, and alt text on images that carry meaning.

  2. 02 · Steady grade

The same navigation on every page, no time limits, and nothing that changes under you without warning.

  3. 03 · Room for everyone

Everything works with a keyboard and a screen reader, text holds up at 200% zoom, and colors meet contrast minimums.

  4. 04 · Calm conditions

If your device asks for reduced motion, our animations stop. Decorative scenery stays out of the way of screen readers.

Our standard

We aim for WCAG 2.2, Level AA.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines are the shared map for this work. Every change to this site is tested before it goes live. axe scans every page, in desktop and phone layouts and again after every interaction. Automated tests confirm it works with only a keyboard, with a visible focus ring on every control, fits a 320 px screen (the same as 400% zoom) and stops all motion when reduced motion is on. Lighthouse holds accessibility at 100. At launch we also checked Windows High Contrast and larger browser text by hand. Screen reader testing with VoiceOver and NVDA is next.

Known trail conditions

Where we're still working.

Scenery
The animated mountain scenes on the home and about pages are decorative. They're hidden from screen readers and stop when reduced motion is on.
Third parties
Our client portal is run by Zoho, and the spam check on our contact form by Cloudflare. We've chosen them with accessibility in mind, but we don't control them. If either gets in your way, email us instead.
Open issues
From our launch audit: on a phone with the browser's text size doubled, a few of the largest headings can run past the edge of the screen. On phones, the pins on the Apps page's demo map are smaller than our 44 px goal, though still above the WCAG minimum. And the contact form's spam check needs JavaScript; without it, email us.

For clients

Accessibility comes standard.

Every website and app we build is designed, built and tested to this standard from day one. It's part of the work, not an add-on.
